What do I need to know?

Before we get to the exact steps to complete a non .uk domain name transfer, there's some important information you will need to know. Please read this section carefully.

Can my domain name transfer fail?

The transfer of your domain may fail if any of the following apply:

The domain has been registered for less than (or previously transferred within) 60 days
The domain's registrant contact first name, last name, organisation or email address have been changed within the last 60 day_s._

These are not terms of Krystal Hosting, they are defined by **ICANN - (external link opens in a new window)****.**

Why am I being charged for transferring my domain name?

In order for us to transfer a non .uk domain name, we need to register the domain for an additional year. This year is added onto your expiry date, so you will not lose any time you have already paid for.

For example, If you have 6 months before your next domain renewal when you transfer to Krystal, you will be invoiced for an additional year. Once the domain name has been transferred, your domain name will not be due for renewal for 1 year and 6 months.

There is one exception to this rule: If the domain was recently reactivated from an expired state, you will not get a year added to the expiry date. So you'll need to pay any expiration fee and then the appropriate renewal fee.

How do I transfer my domain name?

1. Ensure that the domain is UNLOCKED
Obtain the EPP code (also sometimes called the authorisation code or transfer key)
Check the domains contacts and ensure that you are able to receive an email at the Administrative Contact email address for the domain. If you change the contact details the domain may be locked for 60 days - see the warning above. If this happens you will not be able to complete the transfer until after that time.
Ensure any domain privacy service is turned off - this could cause emails not be received by the Administrative contact
Login to your Krystal Client Area and click on Domains > Transfer Domain to Us from the left-hand menu. If you don't have a customer account with us yet you can Register here.

Enter the Domain Name you'd like to transfer, EPP/Authorisation code if required and click Add to Cart.
You can add further domains to transfer or purchase before completing checkout - but please be sure to read the appropriate sections of this document for the type of domain you are transferring.
Checkout to complete the part of this process. If you're a new client you'll be asked to Configure the domain during checkout - you will need to supply the correct registrant details.

What happens next?

We will send an authorisation email to the Administrative Contact email address for the domain. The email will have a subject like "Domain Transfer Request for YOURDOMAIN.COM" - and will be sent from the email address postmaster@name-services.com
The email will ask the recipient to authorise the transfer by clicking or visiting a special web page URL.
Once the transfer has been authorised, we request the domain name from the existing registrar, using the EPP key to validate the request.
If the domain is unlocked, then the transfer should normally complete within five days and should show up in your client area as Active status.

If the transfer fails due to a failure to prepare the domain (Step 1) correctly for transfer, then please raise a Support Request within 28 days and we will restart the transfer for you.
